How to make it more beautiful?

Singapore has been named the 11th most beautiful city in the world -- out of a list of 50 cities.

The list was compiled by Canada-based online travel agency Flight Network.

Singapore was the highest-ranked Asian city.

Tokyo was in the 18th position and Hong Kong in 24th place.

Southeast Asian cities such as Hanoi and Bangkok came in at 37th and 43rd respectively.

1. Paris, France

2. New York, United States

3. London, United Kingdom

4. Venice, Italy

5. Vancouver, Canada

6. Barcelona, Spain

7. Cape Town, South Africa

8. San Francisco, United States

9. Sydney, Australia

10. Rome, Italy

11. Singapore

12. Lisbon, Portugal

13. Amsterdam, The Netherlands

14. Prague, Czech Republic

15. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

How results tabulated

The results are based on the votes of more than a thousand travel journalists, bloggers and agencies all over the world.

They had to judge the cities based on the best combination of natural and man-made beauty, the juxtaposition of nature and architecture, city culture and local weather.

A variety of diverse destinations are featured in the list.

This can range from modern metropolis Dubai to historically-rich Rome.

A filming location was also highlighted.

The picturesque city of Dubrovnik, Croatia, was mentioned, as its ancient fortresses served as the backdrop for the Game Of Thrones (2011 to 2019) series.

Why these same few cities in all the "Most Popular" lists?

However, if all these dozen cities appear commonplace in most popular lists, such as Singapore being named the 8th cheapest city out of 55 cities, that's because they have established themselves in other areas.

Cities that are vibrant have many interconnecting positive qualities that boost positive network effects that draw more people to them.

In reality, there were already 436 cities with between one and five million inhabitants in 2016 -- but many of these have not achieved the attractions of top-tier cities.

This number is expected to grow over time though, as city-living increasingly becomes the norm as more people reside in them in the future and move away from rural-living.

What Flight Network wrote about Singapore?

What’s There

Singapore is a colourful city full of tantalizing sights, smells, and tastes just waiting to be found. Technically a city-state itself, it’s off the southern coast of Malaysia and is the only self-sovereign island in the world! Even in such a busy city, there are still peaceful green spaces like the Gardens by the Bay which has several public greenhouses and some great seaside views too. One of the most iconic sights in Singapore is the Merlion statue, which is a half-fish, half-lion creature that is symbolic of the identity of Singapore itself.

Who’s There

The city is known as one of the most densely populated places on earth, with only Monaco being more densely populated. Culturally speaking, Singapore is a fusion of several cultures including Asian, European, Middle Eastern, and more. This is reflected in the people you’ll see out and about as well as the food they eat and even what they wear. Being an island of course of the main food groups is seafood with grilled stingray being a particularly delicious delicacy to try! The climate here is tropical and is the same all year round – just don’t forget your sunglasses!
