BTS member Jungkook investigated for breaking traffic law & causing car accident

The youngest member of K-pop boyband BTS, 22-year-old Jeon Jungkook, is being investigated by South Korean police for violating a traffic law and causing a car crash.

Collided with a taxi on Nov. 2

Jungkook's car collided with a taxi in Seoul on Saturday (Nov. 2), according to media reports on Nov. 4.

The singer and the taxi driver were both treated for minor injuries.

Allkpop also reported that Jungkook was driving a Mercedes-Benz.

According to CNA, an official from the National Police Agency said Jungkook was sober when the accident occurred.

Investigation is ongoing

The Yongsan Police Agency declined to share any details due to the ongoing investigation, reported Koreaboo.

"We cannot confirm the exact details of the incident because we would violate the crime of publication of facts of suspected crime.

We are currently investigating the details of the incident."

Statement from BTS' management

According to Soompi, Big Hit Entertainment, the South Korean entertainment company that manages BTS, issued an official statement on Nov. 4 regarding the car accident.

Big Hit Entertainment confirmed Jungkook was at fault for the incident but that he had negotiated a settlement with the taxi driver.

Here is the full statement via Soompi:

"The police have not closed this case yet, so we cannot reveal the exact details, but Jungkook was driving his car last week when he had a minor collision with another vehicle due to his own mistake.

Both the victim and Jungkook did not sustain any major injuries.

Jungkook admitted that he violated the road Traffic Act immediately after the accident.

The scene of the accident was resolved and police questioning was completed according to the due process, and an amicable settlement was made with the victim afterwards.

We once again apologise to the victim, and we also express apologies for causing concern to fans.
