During the ongoing Hong Kong protests, a protester was shot in the chest in the Tsuen Wan district yesterday (Oct. 1).

The protests coincided with China's National Day and the 70th anniversary of the Communist Party rule.

Clash at Tuen Mun

Separately, on the same day, SCMP reported that about 12 riot police were cornered by over 100 protesters at the Tuen Mun area. Petrol bombs were thrown at the police, and the police responded with tear gas.

The Hong Kong police also claimed that rioters threw corrosive fluid at them.

The Tuen Mun area is nearly 20km away from the shooting incident in Tsuen Wan.

However, both incidents are said to have shown an escalation on both sides, according to Business Insider.

SCMP also reported that broadcaster TVB slamming slammed the violence after a cameraman and a reporter were hurt in Tuen Mun by acid allegedly spread by protesters.

The pair are being treated in hospital.
