Natalie Siow Yu Zhen, 23, the sole woman allegedly linked to the Orchard Towers killing, put up a Facebook post on Oct. 22 thanking the people who showed her support and offered their well-wishes the past four months she was locked up in remand.

Her post came after a roller-coaster 16 weeks since July 2, where she was arrested and charged with a man's murder, kept in remand the whole time as public interest in her soared, and then to have the charge reduced to assault, and for her to be released on bail to go home to her family.

Background

Siow burst into tears in court on Friday, Oct. 18, when told that her murder charge had been reduced to assault.

Her reduced charge means that she escapes the death penalty.

Offenders convicted of assault can be jailed for up to two years and fined up to S$5,000.

Following the proceedings in a district court, Siow was allowed to go home after spending the past four months in remand.

Siow is represented by Amarick Gill of Amarick Gill LLC and Cheryl Ng of Intelleigen Legal.

Gill said: "She is looking forward to going home to her family and will cooperate with the authorities as advised by me. I am grateful that the prosecution acceded to my representation."

"I feel this is the appropriate charge for Natalie."

Siow was offered bail of S$15,000 on Friday and will be back in court on Oct. 25.

Three others still face murder charge

Siow was one of seven people originally charged with the murder of 31-year-old Satheesh Noel Gobidass.

Satheesh was attacked at 6.30am on July 2 and died in Tan Tock Seng Hospital about an hour later.

The other six people originally charged with murder are:

Loo Boon Chong, 25

Tan Sen Yang, 28

Joel Tan Yun Sheng, 26

Chan Jia Xing, 26

Ang Da Yuan, 26

However, three of them had their murder charge on July 11 reduced to that of consorting with a person carrying an offensive weapon in a public place:

Chan Jia Xing, 26

Three of them who allegedly punched and kicked the victim, are still charged with murder:

Tan Sen Yang, 28

Joel Tan Yun Sheng, 26

Ang Da Yuan, 26

Siow, Tan Sen Yang, Joel Tan Yun Sheng and Ang allegedly punched and kicked Satheesh at the ground floor of Orchard Towers, the charge sheet showed.

Loo and Chan are currently also on bail.

Tan Hong Sheng, who was originally on bail, is in custody after skipping a court appearance on Aug. 29.

Those charged with murder are not offered bail.
