Costs associated with home ownership in Singapore have been made tolerable because Singaporeans have been filling their living quarters with affordable furniture from IKEA.

Little wonder that plenty of people in Singapore showed up at IKEA Alexandra Oct. 31, 2019 for the release of a new capsule collection titled, "MARKERAD".

Initially scheduled to be released on Nov. 1, 2019, the collection has come to Singapore a day early.

Massive queues turn up at IKEA Alexandra

According to 8 Days, the queue for the MARKERAD collection at IKEA Alexandra swelled to over 300 people as of 10am, all waiting to get first hand dibs on the items.

Mothership also spoke to some of the people in line and found out that people started queuing up for the collection from as early as 10pm the night before.

Why so popular?

When asked why the collection is so popular, one Singaporean in the queue said that it is because Virgil Abloh, the designer of the items in the collection, is a well-known designer.

He also highlighted the resale value of the items.

As of 11am, one of the rugs is currently sold out, though it is not clear if it is the wet grass rug or receipt rug.

Customers can also only buy two items per design, and four dining chairs per customer.
