On August 13, a 41-year-old man was rescued from an incredibly muddy patch of water.

The man, who had jumped off a nearby bridge in Chonburi, Thailand, was rescued after he was unable to dislodge himself free from the mud.

He sought help from passers-by, who promptly alerted the authorities.

It turned out he had jumped off the bridge to retrieve a measuring tape that he had dropped.

That did not end well of course, but he was thankfully saved.

Which initially seems a bit of an overreaction for just a measuring tape.

But that was, as you might have suspected, not just any old measuring tape, but rather a keepsake from his late wife, right before she passed away.

The man, who is a blacksmith, said he promised her he would take care of the tape, and wasn't planning to break that promise over some muddy water.

Great job.
