Singapore's swim team starts off with a high on the first day of the FINA World Cup Singapore at the OCBC Aquatic Centre on Aug. 15th, as Quah Jing Wen showed up with a record-breaking 2:10.26s at the 200m butterfly race.

The new record was more than one second lower than the previous mark of 2:11.38s, also set by Quah two weeks ago in the Tokyo leg of the FINA World Cup series.

Finished on the podium

Quah's feat on Thursday got her a bronze medal in the event, standing with top Hungarian swimmers Zsuzsanna Jakabos and Katinka Hosszu, finishing second and first respectively.

Quah was pleasantly surprised with her performance, commenting:

"Today was a lot better than I expected. I touched the wall and didn't expect to see 2:10! More than a second than the latest Personal Best that I've set three weeks ago, so I'm super happy, this is an amazing feeling."

Quah is the youngest of the Quah siblings. The other two, Quah Ting Wen and Quah Zheng Wen, are also national swimmers representing Singapore.

Day 2 featuring Joseph Schooling

The second day of the meet, August 16, will feature Singapore's Olympic gold medalist Joseph Schooling.

Schooling will be competing in the 200m individual medley. He is also the national record holder for this race.
