Personal mobility devices (PMDs) will be banned from all PAP town council void decks and common areas from September 1, 2019.
190 pieces of feedback regarding reckless PMD riders in past year
Speaking to CNA, the coordinating chairman of PAP town councils, Teo Ho Pin, confirmed that the devices will be banned as the safety of residents remain the town councils' "top priority".
Teo also revealed that the PAP town councils received around 190 pieces of feedback regarding reckless PMD behaviour in the last year.
By reviewing their Common Property and Open Spaces By-Laws, town councils will have the power to fine reckless PMD riders or bring them to court.
Use police cameras and surveillance cameras
Teo also told CNA that the town councils will utilise the 70,000 police cameras and surveillance cameras at void decks and lifts to catch PMD riders.
When the ban is enacted, PMD riders will have to dismount their devices and push them when travelling through void decks and common areas.
This ban comes just days after the Land Transport Authority (LTA) brought forward the UL2272 certification deadline for PMDs by six months in response to the rising number of PMD-related fires.
The agency also announced a mandatory inspection regime for all e-scooters which will start from April 2020.
