In the spirit of Mid-Autumn Festival, Gardens by the Bay will display an array of lantern concepts inspired by Chinese folklore and traditions from August 30 to September 15, 2019.
There will also be complimentary performances and activities during the same period.
14 dazzling lantern sets
14 lantern sets will be on show throughout the gardens, with a "Giant Revolving Lantern" (巨型走马灯) at the Supertree Grove taking centre stage this year.
This lantern will offer an immersive experience to visitors, who will be able to see the legendary story of Chang'e and Hou Yi fleshed out on panels.
The Dragonfly Lake will see the longest lantern installation in the Gardens to date, with a 3D floating lantern set titled "Water Colours" (山明水秀) and another floating lantern set titled "Martial Arts" (武山徒步) spanning over 120 metres on water.
There will also be the "Lattice of Lights" (光彩花灯), where 90 one-metre-tall lanterns hang from the roof of the lattice structure at Bayfront Plaza.
AIRMESH
Airmesh is the first structure in Singapore that is made of 3D-printed stainless steel and is inhabitable by people.
Visitors will be able to view different perspectives of the Gardens at this lantern-inspired pavilion that was designed by lecturers from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), depending on where they choose to stand.
It also lights up at night.
Community displays
In addition, Singaporeans will be able to hand-paint 2,000 lanterns to form the Colonnade of Lights (灯廊), while 250 lanterns painted by seniors from seven social service organisations will be on display to form the Illuminations of Joy (挂灯结彩):
The six koi fish featured in Leaps of Joy (鱼跃欢腾) were repurposed from a previous collaboration with community groups.
Other activities
On September 14, 2019, there will be a Mass Lantern Walk led by an LED dragon and stilt walkers at Bayfront Plaza.
Visitors will also be able to claim a free lantern, while stocks last.
Visitors will also be able to watch free Cultural Performances (传说传艺庆中秋) every Wednesday to Sunday, for the entire duration of Mid-Autumn Festival 2019.
A total of eleven home-grown arts groups will be performing, including Raffles Alumni Chinese Orchestra, Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre and more:
Other activities include Lantern Riddles (猜灯谜) and the popular Food Street (美食街).
