Hundreds of thousands of Singaporeans went to Johor Bahru, Malaysia for this recent 2019 National Day long weekend.

And it was packed as heck at the Johor Bahru Checkpoint for those venturing in by public transport:

Many began leaving Singapore for a short getaway as early as Thursday, Aug. 8.

Jammed up returning

This also meant that hundreds of thousands of Singaporeans then attempted to return back to Singapore over the next few days -- causing more jams.

This was the scene overnight from Aug. 11 and 12, as some Singaporeans were stuck in traffic for eight hours waiting to clear immigration to get back home:

These epic hours-long human and vehicular jams occurred at the Woodlands and Tuas land crossings.

2019 National Day jam on SLE, BKE

To allow you to appreciate the scale of the congestion, this was the scene on Aug. 9, 2019 -- at 8.10am:

The right-most lane filtering into the BKE (Bukit Timah Expressway) leading to Woodlands and the Causeway came to a standstill -- as vehicles backed up all the way to SLE (Seletar Expressway).

Here is the video:

This three-and-a-half-minute video was shot by a motorcyclist, which managed to snake its way past the four-wheeled vehicles.

At one point, one commuter probably gave up and started dangerously walking on the expressway road shoulder to make his way from the BKE to the Woodlands checkpoint -- about 3km away.
