A Malayan tiger was spotted at a village in Terengganu, Malaysia.

It is probably one of the over 200 Malayan tigers left in the world.

The tiger appeared relaxed as it casually walked past many frantic villagers.

Passed away

The roaming tiger was later captured on July 19 after twenty staff from the Terengganu Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) were sent out to look for it.

The tiger was estimated to weigh around 130kg.

It was diagnosed with Canine Distemper, caused by a virus which usually attacks domesticated pets and sometimes wild animals.

The virus contributed to the non-aggressive behaviour of the tiger when encountering the villagers but the chances of recovery are low, according to a statement from Perhilitan:

“If the disease infects a tiger, it will display behaviour of not being afraid of humans and the possibility of healing is very small.”

The tiger died at around 5:30am on July 23 after attempts to treat and rescue it at the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC) in Perak, The Star reported.
