A number of chefs have struck out on their own doing what they do best:

Barry Lok, the owner of the Sweet Garden Dining Cafe, is one of them.

Prior to opening the cafe in 2016, Lok spent 10 years working as a chef in various hotels, such as Singapore Marriott Hotel, Four Seasons Hotel, Raffles Hotel, and Tanglin Club.

The chef now serves a wide variety of western dishes in his cafe, most of which are under S$20.

Mains, sides, and desserts

There's the signature Squid Ink Spaghetti (S$18.90), Slow Cook Pork Rib (S$22.90), Smoked Duck Pizza (S$13.90), and Seafood Tomyam Soup with Rice (S$14.90).

Back at our favourite eatery! Nestled in the heartlands serving 5 ⭐️ hotel grade food. We used to come here often when Danna is still in mummy’s belly. Peaceful neighbourhood with not too much crowd, reminds me of Aussie years. #sweetgardendiningcafe #goodfoodgoodpeople #fingerlickinggood #yummlicious #awesome #familytime #nogstnoservicecharge

You can also order sides like Crispy Luncheon Meat Fries (S$8.90) and Baked Cheese Nacho (S$12.90) to go with your mains.

But what really caught our eye were the desserts.

Rarer items like Braised Apple Crumble in Hot Pan (S$15.50, comes with a scoop of gelato) and The Loved Banana Flambe in Hot Pan (S$15.90, comes with a scoop of gelato) are available.

The Loved Banana Flambé with Grand Marnier Definitely something that strikes sweet-tooths; just think of the combination of banana caramalised and spiked with Grand Marnier, crumbles, strawberries and walnuts and a scoop of ice-cream; I picked the Torched Marshmallows which was pretty ironic as it carries a familiar flavour but cold, with little baby marshmallows to even chew on. #jiaklocal
