On July 20, 2019, 64-year-old Hong Kong actor Simon Yam was hospitalised after being stabbed at a promotional event in Zhongshan, China:

Yam returned to Hong Kong on the same night and was admitted to the ICU ward at Hong Kong's Adventist hospital.

Yam stable condition, abdominal and finger injuries

In a Facebook post, Yam's entertainment company provided updates about his condition, stating that Yam's surgery was a success.

It noted that Yam is resting and is in a stable condition.

Yam suffered minor damage to his internal organs and four fingers on his right hand.

Yam's abdomen and fingers were wounded by a fruit knife in the scuffle, and a medical report showed that his hand injury could potentially affect his nerves and impair movement.

Another surgery may be needed

The Straits Times reported that representatives from his management company said that Yam's hand injury could worsen and he might undergo another surgery today (July 21).

Yam's wife, supermodel Qi Qi, was currently accompanying him at the hospital.

Attacker has paranoid schizophrenia

According to The Star, police in Zhongshan have reported that the 53-year-old man who attacked Yam at the promotional event suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.

The attacker has since been detained, and Emperor Entertainment Group has stated that they would take action against him.
