Sad time for physical bookstores.

Bookstore chain MPH is closing its last two outlets in Singapore.

The New Paper (TNP) reported that the company will be closing its Raffles City branch on July 28, 2019 and its Parkway Parade branch on Sept. 1, 2019.

MPH is closing its last two outlets because the rent is too high and the bookstore chain is currently facing intense competition from other online retailers.

This might not be the end of MPH though.

The company is reportedly looking for a new location for a single outlet.

MPH believes that physical bookstores still have relevance in today's day and age.

Moving out sale

In the lead up to the closure of the Raffles City branch, MPH is having a moving out sale with a 30 per cent discount storewide (50 per cent discount on selected items) until July 28, 2019.

Best move fast if you want in on the sale, as TNP reported that most of the shelves at the Raffles City outlet have been cleared.

The Parkway Parade branch will hold its moving out sale in August 2019.
