More protests are expected to take place this week in Hong Kong, but the city is expecting a strong typhoon with heavy showers on July 31, 2019.

This is the best sign that even nature is not with the protesters now.

First signal No. 8 typhoon this year

According to the Hong Kong Observatory, typhoon signal number 8 is expected to be issued at around 2pm on the last day of July.

Typhoon Wipha, as it is called, has adopted a more northerly track and edged towards the coast of western Guangdong.

This will be the first typhoon signal number 8 in Hong Kong for this year.

Typhoon Wipha is expected to be the closest to Hong Kong later in the afternoon, bringing strong local winds and heavy showers.

As of 11:55am, the Hong Kong Observatory issued an Amber Rainstorm warning signal, which is the first on Hong Kong's three-tier rainstorm warning systtem.

People have also started putting tapes on their windows and door to prepare for the strong winds.

The Education Bureau announced in the morning that classes for all schools were suspended.

Meanwhile, MTR services will continue to run, with their service frequencies increased to meet the passenger demand.

However, buses and Airport Express shuttle services will be suspended three hours after the signal number 8 is issued.

Office workers are advised to stagger their departure from work to avoid overcrowding at stations.

The Airport Authority Hong Kong said flights may be affected by the typhoon.

Passengers are advised to check the latest flight status and confirm their seats before heading to the airport.
