#SG200 is not a celebration. It's a commemoration. What's the difference? Maybe this and other articles might help.

There is a HDB void deck prayer space for Muslims at Block 2, Ghim Moh Road.

A Facebook video shared by one Mohamed Rasid Bin Abdullah features a walk-through of the prayer space.

Has been around for 41 years

The prayer space has been there since 1978.

And according to Facebook page Our Musollah, a photography project documenting transient Muslim prayer spaces in Singapore, the prayer space is the oldest tarawih space in Singapore.

During Ramadan, additional prayers (tarawih) are carried out at night -- these prayers are not obligatory but highly encouraged.

Outside the month of Ramadan, religious classes are also held at this space every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Started by neighbours in the mid-1970s

The prayer space was apparently initiated by several Ghim Moh neighbours in 1978 in order to better serve Muslim residents in the area.

The nearest mosques in the area are Masjid Darrusalam and Masjid Mujahidin, both approximately 30 minutes away by public transport.

Two Ghim Moh residents, Haji Mohd Basar and Haji Khamin, both currently 78 years old, were among those involved in this project.

Apparently, former Members of Parliament Major Abbas Abu Amin and Ahmad Mattar also helped to champion for the space.
