A woman in Singapore has taken to Facebook to share a disconcerting incident she witnessed on the MRT train recently.

The incident was about a man, she believed to be a foreign worker, having to give up his seat to a fellow commuter, even though there was an empty one beside him.

This was because the fellow commuter, an elderly woman, had appeared reluctant to sit beside the man, leaving him awkward.

This is the post:

Intervened by offering her own seat

The woman who posted about the incident included a photo of the aftermath of what happened.

It showed her sitting beside the female elderly commuter who had initially refused to sit down, and the foreign worker directly opposite her.

This seating arrangement was a result of the woman who wrote the post intervening when she saw what happened.

Instead of letting the man who gave up his seat stand alone, she gave up her own seat to him and sat down beside the elderly woman.

She wrote: "Seeing that, I immediately stood up and offered to change my seat w him. Because come on, why doesn't he deserve a seat? We are all paying transport fare, isn't it?"

She then urged in her post for people to abide by the golden rule: "Treat others as how you wish to be treated."

This was what she wrote in full:

Just witnessed a very saddening moment. Initially the Indian man was seated opposite me, with one empty seat beside. And after some time, one elderly Chinese aunty boarded the train. She appeared reluctant to sit down and exchanged eye contact with him (I think he's a construction worker) as if he needs to stand up before she agrees to sit down. True enough. The man stood up, and the aunty gave him a look as if he did something wrong.

Mind you, I'm a true blue Chinese, and feel sad when people of different races appear to discriminate another. The man seems fine but awkward. He is nice enough to give up the seats and let the aunty seat on that 2 empty seats. Seeing that, I immediately stood up and offered to change my seat w him. Because come on, why doesn't he deserve a seat? We are all paying transport fare, isn't it?

Be considerate and stand on others shoe.

Treat others as how you wish to be treated. Hope this message will reach out to as many possible. Let's do a small favour to make this stressful world a better place, be it construction worker or whatsoever, they don't rob.

????? if you are like me, want to do something to make this world a better place.
