Bangkok's Chinatown will no longer be that inaccessible.
Five new MRT stations along Bangkok's Blue Line rail system extension is now up and running.
Commuters can get to Chinatown, the Grand Palace and Temple of the Reclining Buddha without getting caught in the Bangkok jam.
The five new stations are:
• Wat Mangkon
• Sam Yot
• Sanam Chai
• Itsaraphap
• Tha Phra
The Blue Line extension has 11 stations in total.
The stations will be served by a new fleet of trains.
The Blue Line currently serves 350,000 passengers a day.
Ridership is expected to more than double to 800,000 a day when all extensions are completed.
Free trial
Rides are currently free for a two-month trial that began on Monday, July 29.
The first train ran between Hua Lamphong and Tha Phra on Monday morning.
Commuters can enjoy free rides until Sept. 28, 2019.
The train running between Hua Lamphong to Tha Phra will operate between 10am and 4pm everyday during the trial period.
The Blue Line will officially open on Sept. 29 later this year.
Trains would run directly from the current Blue Line to the new stretch, which comprises Wat Mangkon station located at Bangkok's Chinatown.
Other stations will get commuters to tourists hot spots in a jiffy.
Sanam Chai station lies some five-minute walk away from Temple of the Reclining Buddha and the Grand Palace.

To be completed in early 2020
More stretches of Blue Line will open later this year and in early 2020.
The full service along the 80 billion baht (S$3.6 billion) extension is expected to commence in March 2020.
Once completed, the Bangkok Blue Line will finally run in a loop and help alleviate the severe traffic congestion in Bangkok.
