The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has banned bottled and mineral water products from Malaysian manufacturer Malee Mineral Water Sdn. Bhd after a strain of bacteria was detected in them.
The SFA released a circular on June 29, 2019 to all bottled water importers informing them that Pseudomonas aeruginosa was detected in consignments of bottled drinking water from Malee.
"In view of the detection, the import of all bottled drinking and mineral water from Malee Mineral Water Sdn. Bhd is not permitted, with immediate effect," said the SFA.
Malee Mineral Water Sdn. Bhd produces the Sukahati, Ro Fina, and Still brands of bottled water.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common strain of bacteria that is found in the environment, especially in soil, water and plants.
It can cause infections especially in those with a weakened immune system.
Previously another brand of bottled water, Starfresh, was also recalled because the same strain of bacteria was found in samples of it.
Guess we should all just drink tap water.
