A recent spat over the alleged caning of a student by a teacher in Johor has come to a wholesome conclusion.

The incident had gone viral after a two-and-a-half minute video was posted to Facebook, showing a woman scolding a teacher for caning her daughter.

Her daughter had supposedly called the teacher an “ah kua” (Hokkien slang for an effeminate man) in front of other students.

The student then received the caning on her arms and legs.

Amicable resolution

However, according to the Malay Mail, their differences have been resolved amicably.

This comes after a closed-door meeting between the mother, daughter, and teacher at the Johor Bahru district education office on June 27.

Johor Education, Human Resource, Science and Technology Committee chairman Aminolhuda Hassan, who was present at the meeting, was quoted by Malay Mail saying that "the meeting between them went smoothly."

"Both sides made efforts to resolve the matter well," he added.

Images of the teacher in a 'hand-shaking' pose with the student and her mother have subsequently appeared on social media.

According to Kosmo, the school's parent support group had helped to set the meeting up.

Investigation continues

While Johor police chief Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd had earlier been reported as saying that the student's mother had withdrawn her police report, he confirmed that investigations would have to continue.

According to Khalil, any decision to close the case would be up to the deputy public prosecutor.

Police had been investigating the incident under Section 324 of the Penal Code for deliberately causing injury.
