Ben Goi recently passed away on Sunday, Feb. 3, while in Kuala Lumpur.

While it was initially believed he suffered a heart attack, the family revealed to Chinese daily, Shin Min Daily News, that it was actually a stroke, followed by a brain haemorrhage.

The family told Shin Min that Goi had been in Malaysia visiting his in-laws.

Tracy Lee, Goi's wife and former actress, hails from Malaysia.

Goi's sister, further elaborated on the sequence of events to Shin Min.

She said the family of three (Goi, Lee and their child) had gone to Kuala Lumpur with their helper and was staying in a hotel.

His sister said that Goi had high blood and hereditary asthma, but she did not know of any major health problems.

Although he had appeared fine to his sister during a video call earlier that day, she understands that Goi had an intense headache later that night.

Goi apparently asked Lee to call for an ambulance, and it was so serious that he had to take a private ambulance.

Despite this, Goi unfortunately passed away at 4am on Sunday.

Although Lee's family quickly informed Goi's family, they were unable to make it in time for his final moments.

Goi and Lee were supposed to come back on Sunday night, and have reunion dinner with the entire family.

Perhaps the saddest revelation from the interview with Shin Min was the fact that Goi was actually excited to celebrate his son's upcoming first birthday, which is this coming Saturday, Feb. 9.

A dream

Sam Goi, Ben's father, also spoke to Shin Min on this tragic turn of events.

He had also been chatting with Goi before his untimely passing.

The elder Goi was devastated when he first heard of his son's death, and found it impossible to accept what happened.

In fact, he had initially thought it was a dream when first informed of the news.

Shin Min noted that the elder Goi was not able to hide his sadness as he talked to them.

Despite not informing much of his relatives about the wake, partially due to the timing of it all, the elder Goi expressed his gratitude that so many came anyway.

According to the Shin Min reporter, some of those who came down included ministers Heng Swee Keat, Josephine Teo, Teo Ser Luck, as well as former ministers George Yeo and Mah Bow Tan.

A number of celebrities, including Zoe Tay, Zhu Houren, and Terence Cao, also came down to pay their respects as well.

Despite his gratitude to those who came down, the elder Goi's profound sadness was best summed up in this quote.

"I have lost my beloved son, nothing will ever heal this pain that i feel in my heart"

Goi will be cremated at Mandai Crematorium on Thursday, Feb. 7.
