The Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), which is 43km long, will have seven interchange stations linking the TEL to all five existing MRT lines.
The first stage of the TEL is slated to open this year.
Woodlands stations to open first
According to LTA's press release on Jan. 7, TEL stage one is about 90 per cent completed.
Stage one involves the following stations; Woodlands North, Woodlands and Woodlands South, and will open later this year.
TEL stage two --involving Springleaf, Lentor, Mayflower, Bright Hill, Upper Thomson and Caldecott-- is approximately 80 per cent complete and is "on schedule to complete in 2020".
TEL stage three --involving Mount Pleasant, Stevens, Napier, Orchard Boulevard, Orchard, Great World, Havelock, Outram Park, Maxwell, Shenton Way, Marina Bay, Marina South and Gardens by the Bay-- will open in 2021.
Founders' Memorial station to be added
In another press release dated Jan. 7, LTA also announced the addition of a new station, Founders' Memorial, in TEL stage four.
The station, which will be located between Tanjong Rhu and Gardens by the Bay stations, will serve the upcoming Founders’ Memorial in the Marina Bay area.
Stage four, which is currently about 40 per cent complete, involves Founders’ Memorial, Tanjong Rhu, Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, Marine Terrace, Siglap and Bayshore.
It is scheduled to open in 2023.
The fifth and final TEL stage, involving Bedok South and Sungei Bedok, will open by 2024.
