Peak bystander effect.

When one witnesses an act or behaviour regarded to be unacceptable, one always faces the dilemma of whether one should intervene or record evidence of it happening.

On Monday, Jan. 28, a video was uploaded to the Facebook group SG Chinese Community Club showing a man allegedly behaving inappropriately on the train towards two female passengers.

In the video, the man can be seen standing just behind both of the women, with his left arm, which appears to be holding a bag, allegedly brushing against them on multiple occasions.

Both women do not appear to react to the man's actions. It is also unclear if other commuters are aware of what he is doing.

In total, the video of both incidents is almost two and a half minutes long.

Here is the video:

Here's what the Chinese caption of the video said:

"注意看站在女士后面的男子看他在幹什么。(Translation: Observe the man standing behind the women and what he is doing.)"

It is not clear when exactly the events in the video took place or where, although from a train announcement in the first section of the video, the commuters were apparently on the way to Admiralty train station.

Netizens triggered by lack of action from cameraman

Many netizens responding to the video were furious, with much of their criticism directed at what they perceived to be the lack of action on the part of the person filming the alleged perpetrator.

Some netizens were also particularly upset that one of the two females appeared to be quite young.

One user said the person filming the incident could have definitely have done more to help the victims since he had evidence of the man's alleged actions.

The commentator also suggested that the females may not have reacted to the man's alleged actions out of fear of being attacked for overreacting:

It's unclear if a police report was eventually made by the person who filmed the incident.
