Finding meals below S$4 in Singapore is difficult, but not impossible:

S$3 chicken briyani

Adding on to the list is Nawab's Briyani.

The new Indian eatery just opened in December 2018 and has been selling chicken briyani for a low price of S$3.

Each meal is served with dalcha (lentil-based curry) and raita (yoghurt with chopped vegetables and spices).

Apart from chicken briyani, Nawab's Briyani has other affordable offerings including mutton briyani (S$4), thosai (S$1) and plain uttapam (S$0.50).

Giving back to the masses

According to a report by Berita Harian, restaurant owner Mohamed Farooq Abdullah said that he wanted to give back to the masses by selling affordable briyani:

"This idea came about when I saw many congregants forming a long queue to collect nasi briyani after performing the Friday prayers in a mosque only to leave disappointed with a small portion of the dish. If briyani is this affordable, donors can afford to give more briyani to more people."

During weekdays, the eatery located in Desker Road can sell more than 500 plates of chicken briyani.

On weekends, however, they can sell up to 700 plates.

Catering for S$5 per pax

Nawab's Briyani also provides a catering service for as low as S$5 per person, which includes briyani dum, dalcha, raita and a chicken dish.

And in the spirit of giving back, Nawab's Briyani provides free delivery for orders that have been made as donations.

Bigger plans ahead

The restaurant still has big plans that customers can look forward to.

In February, the restaurant will be expanding its business by renting the stall next door to sell affordable naan (S$1) and kebabs (S$1.80).
