Facebook page itsrainingraincoats, an initiative to spread kindness to migrant workers in Singapore, recently shared a story regarding an encounter with a migrant worker at Gleneagles hospital.

Injured migrant worker

According to a post on Jan. 7, itsrainingraincoats wrote about meeting a worker whose leg was "badly smashed" in a workplace accident.

He had to undergo surgery to put in a metal plate and multiple screws.

Following the surgery, the worker was supposedly sent home in two days and given a "fit for light duty certificate".

He hasn't been able to walk for nearly three months, itsrainingraincoats said.

"Thankfully the employer is paying his salary and giving him a place to stay and food."

Unable to go home, unwilling to inform family

In their conversation, the foreign worker told itsrainingraincoats that he got married four years ago and was supposed to return home this February.

However, because of his injury, he is now unable to.

In addition, he "hasn't told them (his family) about his accident" as he does not wish to worry them.

He supposedly also told them that he is working night duty in order not to raise their suspicions when he speaks to them in the day.

Praised for his grace in the face of adversity

itsrainingraincoats left a name card with him, telling him to call if he needed help.

Noting how he remained "so calm and full of smiles when [they] chatted", the poster also added that the foreign worker exhibited such "grace, strength and dignity in the face of adversity".
