Errant cyclists versus traffic have become a bit of a rage these days.
However, it would be a stretch to say that every time there's an incident on the road between cyclists and drivers, the fault can be attributed to the cyclist.
On Jan. 17, a video was uploaded to Facebook showing a driver turning at a junction of Eu Tong Sen Street and nearly running down a cyclist in the process.
Here is the video as it appears on the Facebook page of Chinese Singaporean Club:
In case you can't see the video:
Here is the video's caption in English:
"Cyclist has right of way...it is going straight in Green light. Turning vehicles must give way."
Close shave
Initially, the vehicle from which the incident was filmed is stationary, with traffic on the opposite side moving.
A rider on a green motorcycle turns right first and the driver begins to follow suit.

This results in the driver nearly running down a cyclist who is riding on the leftmost lane of the opposite road, eliciting a furious gesture from the latter.

The driver can then be heard in the background saying "green", likely in reference to the green light for his lane.
The driver further adds "Look, it's red man," towards the cyclist, who replies, "It was green light."
This results in the driver insisting once more that the traffic light was green and his subsequent reply that the cyclist should "get moving" as he is holding up the traffic now.

Netizens call out the driver and other netizens who slammed cyclist
Most netizens sided with the cyclist, pointing out that the driver was at fault here for turning while the traffic light was still green for the oncoming lane.
Several netizens also called out other netizens who slammed the cyclist, correcting what was primarily a misconception that the cyclist was still a pedestrian, and should obey the pedestrian lights, despite the fact that he was cycling on the road, which he meant he had to obey the same rules as a vehicle.
In any case, it would appear that the original uploader of the video has also come to the same conclusion as the netizens who criticised the driver, as the original source of the video has since been taken down.
