If you enjoy claypot rice or just value-for-money food, this might interest you.
House of Happiness is a standalone shop located behind Simpang Bedok hawker centre. There, you can find rather unique claypot rice combinations.
For example House of Happiness offers the Teriyaki Pork Jowl Claypot Rice (S$7) which has sous-vide pork jowl that is cooked for 16 hours.
The sous-vide method cooking involves vacuum-packing the meat and then leaving it in a low-temperature water bath to cook. This ensures that the meat is cooked evenly.
After the water bath, House of Happiness sears the pork jowl slightly before serving it on claypot rice.
If you prefer something more exotic, you can try the Claypot Rice with Onsen Egg, Ikura, and Tobiko (S$11) which comes with a generous serving of salmon roe and flying fish roe.
The claypot rice from House of Happiness is actually pre-cooked slightly before it is washed excess starch.
It is frozen next and then cooked to order. This allows the chefs to cook the rice quickly and shorten the waiting time for customers.
The owner of House of Happiness is William Liou who also runs a famous lor bak (braised pork) chain called Mr Lorbak.
Mr Lorbak's Lorbak with black fungus and egg set (S$5.50), which comes with either rice or noodle, is available at House of Happiness.
There, you can get his Signature Lorbak (S$9).
