If you like restaurant-quality food at non restaurant-quality prices, this might interest you.

Hao Lai Ke (好莱客) is a coffeeshop stall in Bedok which sells a variety of Chinese-style noodle and rice dishes

According to social media posts and a couple of local food sites, the stall is helmed by a chef who used to work at Taiwanese restaurant chain Din Tai Fung.

Hao Lai Ke's main specialities are their Pork Ribs Fried Rice (S$6) and Dan Dan Noodles (S$4.50).

These are mainstays of Din Tai Fung, but unlike those you'll find at the restaurant chain, Hao Lai Ke's versions cost only a fraction of the price.

For reference, Din Tai Fung's Fried Rice with Pork Chop costs S$13 while its Dan Dan Noodles will set you back S$8.

Here are some photos of Hao Lai Ke's Pork Ribs Fried Rice and Dan Dan Noodles we found on Instagram:

Hao Lai Ke's fried rice uses short-grained rice. During cooking, short-grained rice releases a type of starch which makes it very sticky and chewy, more so than the more commonly-used medium-grained rice.

Aside from having a pleasant, chewy mouthfeel, short-grained rice are sticky enough to be eaten with chopsticks.
