Aloysius Pang, a 28-year-old Singaporean actor, was reported to be seriously injured on Saturday, Jan. 19 while on high-key reservist training in New Zealand.
Sustained chest and abdominal injuries
The latest statement from the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) shared that Pang sustained injuries to his chest and abdominal areas while carrying out repair works inside the Singapore Self-Propelled Howitzer (SSPH).
Pang underwent abdominal surgery on Jan. 19 and a follow-up relook surgery on Monday morning, Jan. 21 at 11 am, Singapore time.
Speaking to Today, the Chief of Tan Tock Seng Hospital's Trauma and Acute Care Surgery revealed that Pang is in a stable condition.
He had been asked by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to help in the management and progress of Pang's injuries."The primary surgeon taking care of him in Waikato Hospital based in Hamilton is Dr Christey Grant. I know him personally. As in the trauma fraternity, we have worked together.
He updated me on his (Pang's) condition. And I concur with the way things have been done so far and I think they have done a good job in stabilising Aloysius.
Currently, Aloysius is stable, in a stable condition. His vitals are stable and he's awake, alert, and he is breathing on his own, not requiring any mechanical ventilation."
Pang's mother had visited him at Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, New Zealand.
His brother and father will also arrive later in the evening today, accompanied by the family liaison officers from the SAF.
There's an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
