According to a report by Shin Min Daily News, a thief has allegedly stolen around S$3,000 from two vegetable stalls in Marine Terrace Market.
Stolen from money container
The first stall is run by a couple, while the second stall is run by three brothers.
The vegetable stall run by the couple had over S$1,000 stolen from their money container on Thursday, Dec. 13, while the stall run by the brothers had over S$1,000 stolen over two months.
One of the brothers, known as Cai, said that the thief would come once every few weeks, and steal about S$100 to S$200 from the money basket each time.
He also suspected that the thief would take advantage of the stall's busiest period from 8am to 10am to steal from them.
Theft has been going on for two months
Cai said that money was stolen from his stall at least five times in the last two months.
After the theft, the brothers started keeping S$10 notes separately and leaving only smaller notes and coins in the money basket.
They also installed a CCTV camera at the stall, but was unfortunately unable to rewind the footage to the time of the incident to check what the thief looks like.
Woman arrested
On Dec. 20, The New Paper reported that the police have arrested a 64-year-old woman in relation to this case.
The woman was believed to be stealing money from vendors at Marine Terrace Market, and is currently assisting with investigations.
