The Immigrations & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) has been busy warning Singaporeans about heavy traffic into Johor Bahru Malaysia this year-end season.

So busy, in fact, ICA has issued 59 advisories in just the first 17 days of December 2018 alone informing Singaporeans about traffic conditions going up north.

But the good news is: Out of the 59 advisories, one of them is to inform Singaporeans of smooth traffic.

Regularity of advisories

The frequency of advisories put up increases towards the weekends.

For example, advisories were issued on the ICA Facebook page

- four times on Friday, Dec. 14,

- seven times on Thursday, Dec. 13.

- seven times on Wednesday, Dec. 12

- six times on Saturday Dec. 8

Various reasons cited

One of the main causes appears to be the break down of lorries and van that contributed to congestion.

But the major contributing factor to the congestion this December is due to Malaysia closing its side of checkpoint along Causeway on Thursday Dec. 13, 2018 from 12am to 1am for an exercise.

And once the exercise was over, traffic was reported as "smooth".

And the most common advice by ICA?

"Travellers are advised to check One Motoring before embarking on their journey," ICA said repeatedly.
