If you're a fan of 1970s British rock band Queen, you might be familiar with a little tune they made called Bohemian Rhapsody.

Here it is. Please watch it until the end to enjoy it in all its glory:

Being the legendary piece of work it is, Bohemian Rhapsody has also been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Peranakan Sayang

The song definitely has its fans -- and one of them, a local Peranakan named Alvin Oon, has even produced a parody of the song called Peranakan Rhapsody.

You can watch his video below, which was posted to his Facebook page Peranakan Sayang.

Oon set up Peranakan Sayang as a platform for him to showcase the Peranakan culture, and this video was created for the same purpose.

Here are some of our favourite lyrics from the parody version:

Vocals were the toughest part

According to Oon, the idea for the parody had been sitting in his head for "quite some time" and the recent release of the Queen biopic pushed him to produce it.

He also said that the toughest part of the parody were the vocals, for which he enlisted the help of his friends.

Here is his message, which he posted on Facebook:

"So I released my parody 'Peranakan Rhapsody' last Wednesday. After 3 days, it has gone viral with over 1,200 shares with 45,000 views from Facebook and watched over 12,000 times on YouTube to date!

It was a project that I was excited to do because it was in my head for quite some time and the movie 'Bohemian Rhapsody' pushed me to get it done in time before it was released here in SG.

The writing of the lyrics was relatively easy for me but the toughest part was doing the many vocal parts to the song. I listened to the original Queen vocals over and over, until I was confident enough to record the complex vocal parts for the parody. I got a few of my mates to record their voices too and it made a difference adding more texture to the vocals. Thanks Jac, Joe & Nadine!

The other challenge was editing the video. Getting the right images that would support the song wasn't easy and I'm glad Jackie suggested doing a few video takes during the 'Don't Kacho' segment (she pulled my ear too!). It made the music video more fun to watch!

We as a group were quietly confident that people would enjoy this parody because we enjoyed it ourselves! And indeed it has been very popular with the song being shared around the world! It was even shared by DPM Tharman and other prominent people in SG.

I released the song on Facebook and YouTube to be able to track the number of times the music video has been watched but it was ripped by people and shared on WhatsApp too, where you can't track the numbers and people re-posting the song on their FB page. I guess it is all good as the song goes around to more people to enjoy.

The parody was produced to share the importance of culture and also to share aspects of my Peranakan culture. I think it has achieved its objective as I received many messages of how proud they are to be a Baba/Nyonya. It has also reached out to an international audience which can only benefit the promotion of the culture.

Most importantly, it brought about some laughs and joy to people. I hope you enjoyed it too!"
