Mahathir to be conferred honorary Doctor of Laws by NUS on Nov. 13

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad will be conferred an Honorary Doctor of Laws by his alma mater, the National University of Singapore.

The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that this will take place during Mahathir's official visit here at the invitation of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

The conferment will be held on the second day of his visit on Nov. 13.

Orchid to be named after Mahathir and his wife

On the first day, Mahathir will attend a welcoming ceremony, call on President Halimah Yacob, and meet PM Lee.

PM Lee and his wife will also host an official lunch in honour of Mahathir and his wife, Siti Hasmah.

An orchid will also be named after Mahathir and Siti Hasmah, said the ministry.

On the next day, Mahathir will be hosted to lunch by Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

Mahathir will be accompanied by Siti Hasmah, Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah and senior officials.

NUS congratulated Mahathir after election

NUS congratulated Mahathir on May 10 after he won the 2018 Malaysia election with his Pakatan Harapan coalition.

The post said Mahathir was a graduate from the class of 1953, from King Edward VII Medical College, which was NUS’ predecessor institution.
