Star Island is a fireworks musical from Japan.

On December 31, 2018, the performance will be part of the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown celebrations -- its first time out of Japan.

Which is a big deal, because Star Island incorporates "world-class" pyrotechnics with 3D surround sound, synchronised light displays, and stage performances.

Members of the audience will also be given LED wristbands that respond to the show.

Six themed chapters

The organisers promise a futuristic touch to the show with "cutting-edge technology and experiential show elements".

Here are more details of the highlights:

  • Some 15,000 bursts of fireworks, brought in from Japan. The fireworks will come in six different themes (Ceremony, Earth, World, Chaos, Love, One), each choreographed to a unique soundtrack.
  • 3D surround sound from more than 200 speakers
  • Over 60 minutes of multi-disciplinary stage performances, including ballet, pole-dancing, traditional Japanese drumming, and dance
  • An after-party with live DJs

From 5pm, a marketplace with F&B stalls, roving performances, and family-friendly activities will be accessible to ticket-holders.

You can watch the 2017 show in Japan below:
