Best to stay indoors.

Early November was already expected to be wet and cool.

Even with that expectation, Saturday afternoon's heavy rain was still surprisingly intense.

Flash floods in northwest Singapore

As a result, some northwestern areas such as Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Batok were affected by flash floods on Nov. 10.

PUB officers "were on site to investigate and render assistance".

According to the national water agency, PUB, the rainfall between 4.40pm and 6pm was around 40 percent of the average monthly rainfall in November.

PUB also urged people to be careful and keep themselves informed about flood updates via radio broadcast, Facebook or mobile App "MyWaters".

FLASH FLOODS ON 10 NOV 2018

Several places in Singapore experienced intense rain this evening. About 100mm of rain was recorded from 4.40pm to 6pm at Bukit Panjang.

That is about 40% of the average monthly rainfall in Nov.

Flash floods were reported along Choa Chu Kang Way to Choa Chu Kang Ave 1 and Bukit Batok West Avenue 5 (near Esso petrol station and Bukit Batok Driving Centre).

PUB officers were onsite to investigate and render assistance.

Inter-monsoon conditions have set in over Singapore and the surrounding region since late October 2018, and are expected to persist into mid November 2018. The first 2 weeks of November 2018 is expected to be wetter than the last fortnight of October 2018.

We urge the public to exercise caution and avoid stepping into or driving into flooded areas. During heavy rain, the public should stay tuned to radio broadcast and check PUB’s Facebook at www.facebook.com/PUBSg or PUB’s mobile app “MyWaters” for flood updates.

Affected areas

Roads and streets were covered in muddy water, which bore an uncanny resemblance to milk tea.

Muddy waters were at a level that covered both road and pedestrian pavement outside the Bukit Batok Driving Centre.

Having a brolly also couldn't save this lady from getting her shoes and pants soaked in the muddy rainwater that rose above ankle level.

This wet weather is likely to continue in the upcoming week, so put on your rain boots.
