Trix is bringing back iconic fruit-shaped cereal in the US. Hope it comes to S'pore soon.

Lots of work to ensure that they brought back the correct shape.

Trix cereal is currently sold as colourful round puffs worldwide, but plenty of Singaporeans who grew up in the 1990s would remember fruit-shaped Trix.

Different cereal shapes

The breakfast cereal brand made by General Mills first debuted in the US in 1954. At that time, they were ball-shaped and brightly coloured.

From 1991 to 2006, however, Trix came in bright fruit shapes.

This was only in the US though, and it is unclear if fruit-shaped Trix was available in Singapore for the exact time period.

After that, sadly, the original ball shape came back on shelves.

Fruit-shaped Trix back in the US

Following the flood of requests from fans asking if they will ever bring the fruit-shaped cereal back, the brand actually acceded to the demands.

Here's an Instagram post by them on October 1:

This move came with some challenges, though.

Scott Baldwin, director of marketing for General Mills Cereal, said that they had to ensure that "the shapes are just as [their] fans remember":

“Bringing back shapes required the cooperation of a cross-functional team of people. From research and development... to our plant and operations teams actually producing the cereal shapes, the teams worked tirelessly to ensure the shapes are just as our fans remember.

Again, sadly, the shapes are "only available in the US", and will start appearing on shelves throughout the nation in October.

We can only hope that it comes to Singapore soon.

Notice us, senpai!
