*Update on Oct. 18 8.45pm. HDB has reached out to Mothership.sg with a statement regarding this incident:

The car park barrier at Jurong West St 81 malfunctioned on 16 October, and a motorist was unable to exit the car park. As the barrier arm could not be lifted remotely, HDB's service provider had advised the motorist (via the intercom) to push open the barrier so that he could exit the car park. The barrier arm is designed to be detachable as a failsafe measure to cater for such scenarios, hence no action will be taken against the motorist.

A driver in Singapore was caught on camera lifting a gantry barrier manually, causing it to dislodge.

Barrier snapped

In a video shared by Facebook page Roads.sg on Oct. 18, the man could be seen standing in front of a car park gantry barrier.

It looked like the barrier would not open for him.

He could be seen gesturing to another driver, presumably about his predicament.

He then proceeded to lift the barrier with his hands. Bits of equipment could be seen flying off the barrier as he lifted it up.

The barrier stayed upright for a moment and the man turned around to walk to his car.

However, the barrier broke off and fell to the ground instead.

When that happened, the man looked back, seemingly surprised.

Gantry barrier costs around S$1,000

In a previous video uploaded by Roads.sg, a taxi was captured on camera driving through the gantry even though the gantry barrier was still down.

The incident allegedly happened on July 1 this year at Bishan Stadium's car park.

The taxi driver was later allegedly charged a total of S$970.49, including GST, for "new equipment replacement, installation, urgent activation, diagnosis reconstruct and system fine-tuning".

The video also raised another incident where a woman knocked down a gantry barrier and received an invoice for S$1,391.
