Woman catches man allegedly taking upskirt shots of her in Simei, suspects it's same man jailed for upskirt shots in 2017

Oh no.

A woman in Singapore has taken to Facebook to recount her harrowing experience with a man she caught in the act allegedly taking upskirt videos and photos of her.

The woman, whose name on Facebook is 陈玮丽 (Chen Weili), said she encountered the man on Oct. 17.

Here's a rundown of what happened.

Chen was walking in Simei in the afternoon after her internship stint when she heard the sound of a plastic bag behind her.

She then realised the man was uncomfortably close behind her, with something apparently even touching the woman's right inner thigh.

When Chen turned around, she was greeted by the sight of a man crouching down behind her, with his phone.

Chen then caught sight of herself on the video.

Mayhem

Taken aback, Chen demanded to know what the man was doing.

This led to the man attempting to walk away quickly from Chen.

Chen once again demanded to see his phone, grabbed him and tried to retrieve the device.

She once again caught another glimpse of what was presumably her on the screen.

The chase saw the man slip twice, all the while fiddling with his phone, and getting his clothes torn in the process.

Although she did get the phone for a brief moment, the man twisted her left wrist and snatched it back.

It was during this one minute scuffle that the man allegedly deleted the videos and photos on his phone.

After that, the man suddenly did a complete about-turn, and voluntarily gave up the phone.

History deleted

According to Chen's own words, here's what happened.

5. His history was deleted, i scrolled through the recent photos / deleted photos / videos and found nothing. i was really really upset because i saw those videos with my own eyes.

6. He told me go ahead and make a police report, even giving me his particulars (including his IC) and walked off. at this point i was really traumatised by the fact that

- I didn’t even realise he was videoing me despite him being in so close proximity

- no one came to help (there were nobody in the nearby vicinity)

- i was so upset about the fact I just didn’t have the strength to pin him down and get the videos which i saw with my own eyes

- as such, there was no concrete evidence: just his word against mine...

Chen confirmed with Mothership.sg that she did go through with the police report.

Reported to police

Chen went through with the police report as she believed the man followed her for quite a distance and in the hopes no other woman would experience what she did.

7. The fact that he was so daring to come right up behind me while i was walking, to the extend that his phone touched my thighs, and i saw his address on his IC (not near where I stay, means he had been trailing me) made me decide to make a police report in case somebody else kena!

While making the report to the police, she found out some information on the man with the help of some of her friends.

Chen and her friends suspect it is a man who was previously arrested for taking upskirt photos of women

This was a fact seemingly confirmed by one of the man's ex-colleague.

Chen also reflected on how she felt about the situation.

9. Crying now as i write this. Today was suppose to be a good day for me, starting my intern, i was looking forward to getting some studying done when i got home, but instead, i spent the afternoon filing police reports, trying to get clinics to do a medical examination on my wrist (i eventually gave up- GPS don’t fill in reports) and when I walked home after trying to find a clinic to fill the report, i saw a woman w short hair wearing a similar color shirt (blue) i jumped so hard.

10. My wrist is hurting now and i really feel humiliated and violated by his act and feel traumatised by the whole incident especially by the fact that i was so oblivious and it happened in daylight. The fact that a stranger has seen things he shouldn’t without my knowledge makes me feel like i want to vomit. Im really worried that the videos get circulated on forums, as I suspect he still has them (probably sent to someone else) ??

And here's her initial motivation for sharing the post in the first place.

After much consideration, and despite the fact that i have concerns for my safety, i have decided to tell my story today to the public. Most importantly, i hope that my experience shared is not futile...women should always take a stand for themselves.

I was wearing a Long sleeve shirt and almost a knee length skirt, yet this incident could happen. if i as an adult was so scared, I cannot imagine teenagers or secondary school girls in the same position. Dont be scared and keep quiet about it...

In response to media queries, the Singapore police said in a statement:

On Oct. 17, 2018, at about 1.46pm, the Police were alerted to a case of public nuisance at Blk 155 Simei Road. A 29-year-old man was arrested in relation to the case. Police investigations are ongoing.
