Former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak walked out of an Al Jazeera interview after being asked too many questions about 1MDB and a slew of allegations against him.

What did interviewer ask?

The interviewer Mary Ann Jolley repeatedly questioned Najib about 1MDB, the pink diamond for his wife Rosmah Mansor, and even the murders of Altantuyaa Shaaribu, Hussain Najadi and Kevin Morais.

The programme is called 101 East, an Al Jazeera staple.

What happened before Najib walked out?

Najib, who looked increasingly irritated, stood up and threatened to walk out.

Before he got out of his seat, he had asked Jolley to move on to questions about the economy, but she did not.

"Can we go to the economy? We have spent too much time, otherwise, I'm going to walk out – no more, no more, please no more," Najib said.

"That's it, I'm done," he said as he stood up. "If you want to talk about the economy, I will sit down."

When Jolley insisted on continuing, Najib, who was standing, raised his voice and lashed out at her.

"Come on, you are not being fair to me... Look, I've done my part and I'm not going to stand anymore for this," he said.

Jolley then agreed to talk about Najib's legacy and the former prime minister proceeded to sit down and take his seat again.

Najib then talked about the economic performance of Malaysia.

However, when he was asked what he thought about 1MDB "staining" his legacy, he said: "I wish there was no 1MDB issue."

When Jolley then asked about fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, Najib finally decided to walk.

He said: "Why are you coming back to Jho Low?"

As Najib was standing, Jolley asked what he thought about Low evading arrest over 1MDB, but he himself facing the law.

"You have to ask him, why are you asking me, I am not in touch with him anymore," he said as he walked away.

As Jolley continued to press Najib on the last time he met Low, he refused to take further questions and left.

Al Jazeera released a statement before the full interview appeared online and said Najib had lost his cool, but did not reveal that he walked out.

What else was revealed in the interview?

During the interview, Najib also said investigators should probe other international figures allegedly involved in siphoning funds from the 1MDB scandal, and not just stop at Jho Low.

"Fine... let them do their work but don't just stop at Jho Low. Get others involved as well because there are other international figures who probably are involved. They must also be investigated."

"We want to know where the money flowed to. And who really benefited from the whole 1MDB issue. I would like to know too," he told Jolley.

She had asked him what the six investigations on corruption related to 1MDB that were going on around the world.

Najib also confirmed that he did not verify the source of the RM2.6 billion or who owns the funds, as he assumed that the donations were connected to Saudi Arabia after King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud had assured him that he would support the former Malaysian prime minister.

"The question is when I received the funds, was I aware of the source of the money... or whether the source of the money is in dispute as to who owns the funds, certainly in my capacity I would not have access to banking knowledge," he said.

Najib also said: "Because whoever owns the fund is protected by the secrecy of banking laws so when I received the funds, in all honesty I thought it was a genuine donation and at that particular time, the knowledge that I had was based on a conversation with King Abdullah."

Rosmah's diamond

When asked about the 22-carat pink diamond allegedly bought with 1MDB funds and given to his wife Rosmah Mansor, Najib said the US$27 million gem was a gift from United Arab Emirates' Prince Sheikh Mansour.

He also insisted that Rosmah never received the gift.

"It's a matter of dispute what happened to the pink diamond. So let's not jump to conclusions," he added.

Najib apologised

Najib subsequently apologised for his outburst, and promised to accept any request from Al Jazeera for another interview.

Najib currently faces 38 charges of corruption, criminal breach of trust and money laundering, which include allegations that funds found in his bank accounts were misappropriated from 1MDB.
