Lion Air flight JT-610 had gone missing 13 minutes after departing from Jakarta on Oct. 29 morning.
Contact with Lion Air was lost at 6.33am Indonesia time.
It is not yet made clear how many passengers were on the plane, based on early reports that said the plane has crashed.
The plane has a full capacity of 210 pax.
The plane was on its way to Sumatra.
According to Flight Radar, a Swedish website that shows real-time commercial flights information on a map:

According to Flight Radar:
The flight was operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 registration PK-LQP. The aircraft was delivered to Lion Air in August of this year. It is powered by two CFM LEAP-1B engines.
According to The Straits Times, a tugboat had reported a plane crashing into the water on Monday morning.
A Lion Airline spokesperson confirmed by text message that the plane had crashed.

According to Bloomberg, there were allegedly 189 people on board the plane.
According to news.au, Indonesian transport officials have confirmed the passengers included two infants.
Search operations have begun, with items such as handphones and live vests were found.

There were also apparently 20 officials on the flight according to the Indonesian Finance Ministry.
