What lurks within public facilities in Singapore after dark?
Ghosts or nothing much, of course.
Libraries opening after midnight
But if you have always wanted to explore the library after regular opening hours, here is your chance.
The National Library and Toa Payoh Public Library will be opening past midnight on the last weekend of October 2018 for spooky events.
The National Library at Victoria Street will host the "Night at the Library" event.
And the Toa Payoh Public Library will host the "Dark Tales: Reapers' Trail" event.
Both events are targeted at teens and adults -- as long as participants are above 15 years old.
How events work
As the events start late on Friday and Saturday night, they will end at about 1.30am the next day for both days.
There is some variation in start timings for the two events, but they can be assumed to start from 10pm onwards.
Based on information provided online by the libraries, the events are tours and they are free for the public to attend.
The National Library tour's duration is 45 minutes, while the Toa Payoh Public Library's event has been described as a "haunted trail" where participants can be "spooked by creepy local urban legends".
The only catch is that participants for both events have to first borrow four books or e-books during the month of October 2018 to gain individual entry and must present the loan receipt for verification.
Participants who manage to join both events can redeem a gift.
