In a Facebook post on October 11, Jingwen Ho alleged that she was sexually harassed on the MRT.

She also claimed that the alleged perpetrator did the same thing to two other girls.

Sexually harassed on train

According to Ho, she was on the North-South line home on October 11 at around 10pm when a man sat on the empty seat to her right.

This is her account of what happened next:

"He started manspreading and (pretended to) fall asleep. Within minutes, he inched closer to me and was leaning to his left, to the point where I was literally occupying the left half of my seat to avoid physical contact with him. He was using his backpack to rub his crotch area up and down while he clutched onto his pants, as he was in the act of leaning towards me."

Ho then moved to another seat where there were no vacant seats beside her.

Observed victim 2

She said that she continued to observe his behaviour, "just to make sure that [she] wasn't suspecting an innocent man".

According to her, she saw him "[pretend] to sleep for the next five minutes or so before he stood up and moved down the cabin to the next empty seat".

He allegedly repeated the same set of actions (inching and leaning closer) to that woman he sat next to until she too, moved to another seat.

Ho said she saw the man "pretending to wake up casually" and alight the train, only to board the same train two doors down.

In her post, she provided some photos of the man:

Observed victim 3

Ho said that she approached victim 2 to share her encounter, and both of them kept a close watch on the man.

According to Ho's post, they saw that he had chosen to sit next to a young woman "even though there were empty seats elsewhere".

He allegedly proceeded to "[inch] towards her (victim 3)" and "[rub] his backpack" against his crotch.

This was the third incident Ho had encountered, including her own. Ho said:

"His persistent and repetitive sequence of actions gives me every reason to believe it is intentional and deliberate."

Ho went up to victim 3, who was "distraught as she struggled to move away", and informed her of the man's behaviour.

The man, however, continued "napping" until the train pulled into Jurong East (the last station) where he alighted and continued to loiter at the platform for a while.

Police report made

At Jurong East MRT station, Ho quickly approached a station staff who accompanied her back to the platform to find the alleged perpetrator.

Unfortunately, he had disappeared by then.

According to Ho, a police report was made on October 12.

In her post, she also encouraged anyone who has encountered the same experience to reach out to her.

On October 16, she posted an update, stating that another girl has come forward to share a clip of the man supposedly rubbing his crotch area.

The clip is supposedly from four years ago.

We have reached out to Ho for additional comment.
