If you have a long-ish memory, you might remember the Singaporean girl, Cheryl Yap, who, along with her mother, went "missing" on a mysterious trip to Romania.

According to The Straits Times, Yap's father contacted Shin Min Daily News out of fear that they had fallen victim to a scam.

The truth turned out to be way weirder than anyone could have imagined.

But basically, Yap, and her mother went to Romania to visit Yap's boyfriend, Alexandru Doneau, whom she had befriended online a few years ago.

The couple, who are both manga fans, also revealed their plans to get married in one or two years.

Fast forward

Well a little more than two years on from that incident, Yap and Alexandru defied all odds and did just that.

According to Alexandru's Facebook post on September 27, the two got married in a ceremony at Copenhagen, Denmark.

Their Facebook post reads:

After 5 years of struggling to be together, we have finally made the biggest step towards our future ♥

Truer words have never been spoken. Congrats!
