Even though gang fights among humans in Singapore have been successfully outlawed, occasional skirmishes have not been completely eradicated in the animal kingdom.
Otters clash
On Oct. 24 morning, the Bishan otter family clashed with the Marina otter family at Kallang Basin after a year of peace.
The brief altercation between the otters from different factions was caught on video and shared to the Ottercity Facebook page.
From an onlooker's perspective, the otters looked kind of cute as if they were splashing water at one another.
But it can turn deadly.
Previously, one pup from the Marina otter family reportedly died after one of these clashes.
History of otter feud
This recent clash is the result of otter families barging into each other's territory.
In 2015, the Bishan family relocated from their original home at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park to the Marina Bay district.
In other words, they upgraded.
The move displaced the Marina otters that were chased out as a result.
The Marina family remained on the move, travelling between East Coast and Singapore River before relocating to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.
So, the two families made a switch.
Lying in wait
All this time, it appears that the displaced Marina otter family have been waiting to return to their original home at Marina Reservoir.
According to Ottercity, the Marina family travelled over 10km from Lower Pierce Reservoir and arrived at Kallang Basin on Tuesday.
They stayed the night and when day broke on Wednesday morning, the Marina family continued downstream and into the path of the Bishan family that stole the land.
There were eight travelling displaced Marina otters and nine Bishan otters that had to protect their conquered territory.
The two sides clashed at 7.26am
To be continued.
