On Sept. 16, Hong Kong was slammed by Typhoon Mangkhut, with wind speeds reaching in excess of 170 km/hour and storm surges that reached up to 3.5 metres.

Thus far, more than 100 people have been estimated to be injured by the storm and up to 900 flights in and out of Hong Kong have been cancelled.

Videos of Mangkhut's fury have also been circulating on social media showing the devastation being wrought by the typhoon.

Not all of the videos are events during the typhoon though.

Here are some videos which aren't true:

Passenger jet flying upside down before landing

Originally posted by Time News International on Sept. 14 the video has since reached over 10 million views. It shows a plane doing a barrel roll prior to landing, whereupon the video suddenly cuts to a scene on the tarmac with clear blue skies where passengers are shown to be exiting the plane in an emergency situation.

What's more, according to the beginning of its caption, the video is of "Dragon Air [being] hit by typhoon in China ShenZhen."

What the video really is:

Aviation news website has since debunked this particular video, noting that Time News International is merely a Facebook page that posts videos and lacks a website.

Furthermore, the scene of the plane at the beginning is actually a clip of animation that was combined with scenes from an actual accident involving the hard landing of a Beijing Capital Airlines plane at Macau Airport on August 28.

Tornado carving its way through the city

Caught up in the surge of real videos on the waves and wind typhoon Mangkhut brought to bear on Hong Kong was this particular video of a tornado supposedly cutting a swathe through the city.

What the video really is:

A clip of a tornado in Foshan, Guangdong in 2015, from the Youtube channel New China TV, which is run by Chinese news agency Xinhua News Agency.

The tornado was formed by Typhoon Mujigae when it hit Guangdong in October 2015.

Badminton ownself play ownself clips

YouTube reveals that it actually took place in Taiwan in 2015.

There's a second video of a boy purportedly playing badminton with the storm, but it's still not known whether it actually happened during the recent storm.
