Man stands outside Newton MRT station Exit B for 5 minutes to attract 'Aedes' mosquitoes to prove it's a problem

Some heroes don't wear capes. And insect repellent.

A man, who is probably a hero, has put himself up as experimental bait by attracting mosquitoes outside Newton MRT station Exit B.

Attract mosquitoes using body

He did this by just standing there for five minutes to attract the mosquitoes to move in on him.

The purpose is to prove that the area is a breeding ground for mosquitoes, some of which may be of the Aedes variety.

Aedes mosquito

Two photos put up showed mosquitoes resting on the experimental subject's arm and the back of his hand.

The mosquitoes photographed -- which might have been the same mosquito that just landed on two different parts of the man's body -- has the distinctive black and white bands on the legs and body characteristic of the Aedes mosquito.

Research method

Using the powerful Google research tool, the man positively identified the mosquitoes as possibly being Aedes mosquitoes.

He also successfully retrieved information from the National Environment Agency website, via his internet search query, which said that the way to get rid of the flying blood suckers is to remove stagnant water, so as to prevent a place for the mosquitoes to breed.

Responses

The man's post has been met with positive responses since it was put up on Sept. 17, 2018.

Comments in response to the post began tagging the NEA:

NEA's office is mere minutes away from the Newton MRT station exit:

Others also responded philosophically:
