A woman who was allegedly molested on the train and at the MRT station has taken to Facebook to share about her encounter.

The Facebook post was written by Karmen Siew on Sept. 12, which included details on the incident and the process of her making a police report.

Molested on MRT & MRT station

According to Siew, this was what happened:

• She was on the North East Line bound for HarbourFront on Sept. 12, 11.20pm
• A man brushed his hand against her thigh while seated beside her
• Thinking that it could have been accidental, she crossed her right leg over her left to create some space between them
• The man inched closer, and brushed against her repeatedly, despite her legs being squeezed "into the far corner of the seat"
• Siew got up, and moved one seat down
• She alighted at her stop, Serangoon, and the man followed her
• While she was on the escalator, the man "ran his finger between [her] buttchecks, along the line of [her] private parts"
• Siew told Mothership that the groping incident happened between 11.33pm and 11.36pm

Alleged molester managed to get away

Siew told Mothership it did not occur to her to scream in that very instant as she was too shocked by the incident.

She also explained that she did not chase after the alleged perpetrator as she was "in slippers" and she was "carrying two heavy bags full of stuff".

"I'm neither strong nor fast... so I thought that the station master was a better bet," Siew added.

Immediate after she was molested, she "dashed to the control station", and pointed to the man who allegedly touched her, loudly exclaiming that he is a molester.

The man had not yet exited the MRT gantry at that time, so Siew asked the station personnel if he was able to prevent him from exiting.

But, according to Siew, the personnel supposedly "[did] not know what to do".

According to Siew, the station master also told her that he was the only one at the control station at that time, and could not abandon his post (to give chase).

The alleged perpetrator then got away.

Given this situation, Siew wrote that she was "f***king pissed" because of "the ineptitude of the people who are supposed to help, and the indifference of those who could".

Police investigating

In Siew's Facebook post, she said that a second control station staff called the police to make a report.

She was also informed that the CCTV footage and police report had to be reviewed at the police station.

She then made her way down to the nearest police station.

After recounting the incident to numerous police officers, Siew wrote that she was done and left at 2.19am, without getting to review any CCTV footage.

However, she was informed that "there's a team that will get on it", and that she may be asked to identify the man at a later date.

The follow-up by the police was swift.

Several hours later in the morning, the police did give Siew a call to clarify some details.

According to Siew, the officer she spoke to also said that "there's a good chance they can find him as the station was not crowded".

As of the time of writing, Siew shared that she has no further updates from the police yet.

Has received plenty of messages

Since sharing this incident on Facebook, Siew said that she has received plenty of messages from others who have experienced similar incidents.
