Mother finds dead lizard in newly-opened diaper packet bought from Jurong Point

She clarified that she did not leave the packaging opened.

One Singaporean mother, Vernice Lim, found a dried-up lizard in a diaper and took to Facebook to warn fellow parents about it.

According to her post on September 27, she bought MamyPoko diapers from Fairprice at Jurong Point and opened the packaging to take out a diaper.

Lim noticed that something was wrong because her daughter was "screaming".

Only then, did she allegedly discover a dead lizard in the diaper:

Did not leave it open

Lim clarified that the packet was new and this was the first diaper she took out from the packaging.

As she intended to use the diaper immediately, she added that she did not leave the packaging opened.

She also attached several photos of the packaging to show that there were no holes that the lizard could possibly enter from:

Statement from Fairprice

In a statement shared with Mothership.sg on September 27, a Fairprice spokesperson stated that they are "committed to providing good value, quality and service".

The Fairprice spokesperson also said that customers can "bring any defective products with the receipt back to the same store where they purchased the item for a full refund or exchange".

In a statement shared with Mothership on September 29, MamyPoko Singapore said that they "will take all appropriate steps to thoroughly investigate into how the incident arose and resolve the matter".

They also "regret the unwanted stress and worry" they have caused.

This is their full statement:

"We refer to a recently reported incident where a foreign and unexpected object was found in one of our diaper products. This appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no evidence of any similar occurrence in our history.

We deeply regret that this incident had occurred and we are taking this matter very seriously as the safety and quality of our products as well as the wellbeing of our customers are of paramount importance. Accordingly, we will take all appropriate steps to thoroughly investigate into how the incident arose and resolve the matter.

We are committed to taking any and all necessary actions to make sure our products are as safe and hygienic as possible, and we have always been working diligently to ensure that our procedures and processes concerning our products are aligned with industry best practices.

Based on our philosophy of providing high quality products, we will prioritize this investigation, in order to continue to be the trusted brand of diaper like how we have been all these years.
