47-year-old Louis Koo is a Hong Kong actor known for his good looks and acting prowess.
He is also very active in philanthropy.
100th school completed in July
A netizen on Chinese website Sina posted photos of a school named after Koo in late July this year.
Written on one of the yellow buildings in the school compound was 'Gu Tian Le (Louis Koo)'s 100th school'.
Funded more than S$5 million over past decade
Since 2009, Koo has funded 100 schools, 18 medical facilities and 750 water cellars.
It takes around S$40,000 to S$100,000 to build a primary school in China.
On average if a primary school requires a funding of S$50,000, it is estimated that he contributed at least S$5 million to build schools in China according to news reports.
To do charity in China, people in Hong Kong have to donate through a Hong Kong charity organisation.
The schools were named after Koo as a requirement by his chosen charity organisation to name schools after donors.
Here are a list of schools he has funded.
Motivation
Koo started his charitable work after the Sichuan Earthquake back in 2008 when he learnt of the primary schools destroyed by that disaster.
That year, he set up a charitable foundation under his name and funded the first school in Guangxi, China.
Koo started work after quitting school at 15. He was involved with some bad company and even participated in a robbery at the age of 18 which saw him spend 22 months in jail. After that, he turned over a new leaf and worked as a mover, security guard, fast food server etc before entering showbiz.
His experience strengthened his belief in the importance of education, and fuelled his desire to provide children living in rural areas with a proper education.
Low profile in his philanthropy in China
Koo will send inspectors to ensure the quality control of the construction works and occasionally volunteers at rural villages without any deliberate publicity efforts.
The construction of the 99th school that Koo funded was completed earlier this year in June. At a promotional event for his new film 'L Storm' in Hong Kong back then, Koo declined to answer questions when asked about his charitable acts.
