An empty bullet cartridge was found along Yishun Street 81 on Saturday night.

Reports in The Straits Times and STOMP indicated that it was a 5.56mm round, used in SAR-21 rifles (the most common one used by the Singapore Armed Forces).

Both publications reported that it was discovered by a passerby walking outside Orchid Park Secondary School, who then alerted the police.

A post from local singer-songwriter Kohji Toh showed videos of police cordons outside the school, with a row of flashing police lights as well as a police car in the vicinity.

Speaking to Mothership, Toh said people who were in the area told him that they had apparently heard "a super loud explode sound", when he walked around looking for more information.

Just so we're clear, though, bringing even an empty ammunition round out of a military training ground is an offence that warrants detention, and potentially a fine as well.
